Face Off !

Research by anthropologists has shown that cavemen always slept close to the entrance of their caves, while leaving the cave-women and cave-children to the relative safety of the interiors of the cave. And like several other human traits, this one has stayed with us as well. An excellent example is how men sit in restaurants. Almost invariably, the men will sit in the chair that faces the exit. Test this out the next time you are in a restaurant....

A good way to make a man uncomfortable is to put him in a chair far away from the door, facing the wall !

My wife and I have immense fun looking at other people in restaurants and observing their seating positions. And we have come to some empirical conclusions:

1. If a man and woman are dining together and the woman is facing the exit, then a) The guy is gay or b) The woman runs the show in the household
2. If there is a group of men dining together, the leaders of the group will gravitate towards the seats that face the exit.
